I have never used anything other thana straight 16" Martin style fingerboard. I want to consider options before starting my next build. I was thinking about a 16-20 compound. Can I please get a quick education? Maybe I'm missing the boat here by not using a compound FB. |

16" here...Reason...tradition I believe that more electric guitars use compound radii than acoustics. On those builders who use the compound,I'd be interested in learning more as to the rationale and benefit. |

i've used both, with the compound being an upcharge since i did them by hand. i would recommend the compound to those players who do a lot of bending since it reduces the likelyhood of buzzing on the higher frets. i bought the plans for craig's radiusing jig but haven't got around to building it as yet. when i do, this option will be a lot easier to produce. it should be noted that many older martin boards have a compound radius, approx. 16-20. |
